Dr Yash Gupta completed his initial qualification, a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, at the University of Western Australia (UWA) in 2012, with majors in pharmacology and physiology. He then enrolled in UWA’s postgraduate Doctor of Medicine program, graduating in 2017. He is currently enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety at Queensland University of Technology
Following graduation from medical school in 2017 Dr Gupta commenced his internship placement at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH). During his rotations at FSH and Fremantle Hospital he was exposed to a broad range of specialties including but not limited to emergency medicine, respiratory medicine, orthopedics, neurology, cardiothoracic surgery and psychiatry. He was then accepted into the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners training program, with the view to becoming a General Practitioner. However, upon discovering the field of Occupational Medicine he decided to defer this training and pursue a formal qualification with the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
Prior to commencing with OSHGroup, Dr Gupta delivered employment-related medical assessments, injury management services, file reviews, procedure development and visa medicals for a variety of providers. He has worked with clients from the oil and gas, mining, rail, construction, logistics and transport and professional sports industries. Dr Gupta is a Rail Industry Safety Standards Board (RISSB) Authorised Health Professional (AHP).
On weekends he regularly works as an emergency medicine locum where he manages a large variety of acute presentations including toxicology, trauma, infectious diseases, psychiatry, cardiac and surgical cases. He is also casually employed by the Women’s AFL providing acute head injury and concussion management as a field doctor, which ties in with his interests in head injury and chronic traumatic encephalopathies.
Outside of work Dr Gupta enjoys staying fit and powerlifting. He also has an interest in environmental sustainability and syntropic agroforestry and would love to one day grow food forests.
