A graduate of UWA, Dr Overmeire has practiced occupational medicine for 20 years and brings wide-ranging experience from both the UK and Australia.
He has worked in a variety of industries and professions with diverse occupational health requirements, including mining, manufacturing, transport, fire and emergency services, government services, retail, health and aged care. He worked in-house at the Metropolitan Police Service in London, where he achieved a significant reduction in absenteeism by introducing a collaborative injury management system. He worked in-house at New South Wales Fire Brigades and currently consults as occupational physician to DFES.
Dr Overmeire is a Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (AFOEM), member of the AFOEM WA Committee and elected representative on AFOEM Federal Council. He is a trainee supervisor and regularly involved in Faculty training activities. An avid proponent of the Health Benefits of Good Work, he delivered a keynote address on this topic at the 2015 WorkCover WA Injury Management Conference.
His key interests are musculo-skeletal medicine, workplace injury management and worksite health assessments. A large portion of his work involves independent medical reviews of complex workers compensation claims for employers, insurers, defendant and plaintiff lawyers.
