Neuropsychologist

Professor Simon Collinson is an award-winning Professor of Neuropsychology. Professor Collinson obtained a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in Psychology from Curtin University, Western Australia.

After working in the Department of Psychiatry at Imperial College London, and the Mental Health Research Institute in Melbourne, he subsequently completed clinical training in Sydney at Macquarie University, with rotations in Adult (Royal Prince Alfred Hospital), Child (Sydney Children’s Hospital) Old Age (Concord Hospital) and General Psychiatry (Westmead Hospital) and received his Master’s in Clinical Neuropsychology. Professor Collinson subsequently won a UK Medical Research Council Scholarship to attend the University of Oxford and completed his Doctorate in Neuropsychology (Clinical Medicine). During his doctoral studies, he worked clinically at the Department of Psychiatry, Warneford Hospital and the MRC Clinical Neuropsychology Unit at the Radcliffe Infirmary, Oxford. He was subsequently awarded a JS McDonnell Foundation Fellowship in Neuroscience also at the University of Oxford.

Returning to Australia, Professor Collinson worked as Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist in Neurosurgery and Trauma at the Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, and as Senior Clinical Neuropsychologist in Brain Injury Rehabilitation at the Epworth Hospital, Melbourne. In 2006, he was recruited to The National University of Singapore to establish and lead Singapore’s first Clinical Psychology training programme jointly with the University of Melbourne and was instrumental in establishing clinical neuropsychology services at the National University Hospital in Singapore. He has directly supervised the training of over 200 clinicians in neuropsychology. In 2014, his work in Singapore was recognised by Curtin University with a Distinguished International Alumni award.

In his 25 years of clinical experience, Professor Collinson has provided expert opinion to courts in Australia, United Kingdom, Brunei, Singapore, and Malaysia. Professor Collinson is an AHPRA endorsed Clinical Neuropsychologist, a Member of Australian Psychological Society, and a Fellow of the College of Clinical Neuropsychologists. He has held honorary academic appointments at Monash University, La Trobe University, The Institute of Mental Health (Singapore) and the National University of Singapore. He has sat on various university academic and medical advisory boards including neurotech companies and fortune 50 insurers in the US, Singapore, and Japan.

Professor Collinson’s academic contributions include over 90 authored or co-authored scientific publications and 5 book chapters. He maintains clinical practice in Perth and Singapore, a Professorship in Psychology at James Cook University, and is visiting Professor, School of Medicine, National University of Singapore, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine / Mind Science Centre, National University of Singapore.
